Yew Dell offers a varied slate of classes and events from garden lectures to hands-on workshops, plant walks, festivals and programs for families and kids, casual gardeners, homeowners and avid plant lovers. All paid registrations are nonrefundable but are transferable.

 

Late Thursday Nights

First Furry Friendly Thursday

Thursday: June 1, July 6 & August 3

4pm-7:30pm

Bring your favorite four-legged friend and hike the trails, stroll the gardens or have a picnic together. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after!


Second Summer Saunter Thursday

Thursday: June 8, July 13 & August 10

6pm-7:30pm

Come for an entertaining and informative plant focused walk.
The walks will feature: June--Cool plants, July-- The Arboretum, August -- The Woodland Trail


Third Thursday Tunes

Thursday: June 15, July 20 & August 17

Enjoy an evening of music in the garden with local musician Tom McShane.


Fourth Fairy Fun Thursday

Are you or your kiddos fairy garden fans? Come out for a hands-on opportunity to get acquainted with fairy garden life and its creatures. Our “fairy dedicated” volunteers will guide you through the fairy garden and introduce you to materials so you can build something of your own for the fairies.



Music in Nature Mini Summer Camp

3 Consecutive Wednesdays, June 19-August 2; 9:30am-11:30am

Taught by award-winning singer/songwriter and children's educator- Pamela Jay. Children will deepen their relationship with the natural world and awaken their imaginations as they explore the beauty of Yew Dell's gardens and woodland trails and learn to "tune into" the music of nature. Campers ages 7-12 will enjoy playing Yew Dell instruments( no experience is required), hiking, singing and songwriting, improv movement, musical games, working as a team to create musical "soundscapes" and creating their very own whimsical found object /nature instrument to take home! Children are welcome to bring an instrument from home if they like.





Children in the Dell

Every Saturday, June 3-August 26; 10:30am-12pm

Join our usual merry band of kiddos in the Children in the Dell World Headquarters (aka the log cabin) rain or shine! This popular Saturday-morning program is the perfect opportunity to give children a chance to spend some time with all that is green. Our energetic and creative educators will engage the children in everything from planting and growing veggies to nature-inspired scavenger hunts and a whole lot more. Whatever happens to be in season will be the topic du jour. Intended for children from 5-12 years old. Parents must stay on the grounds and are invited to participate in the day’s activities. Preregistration encouraged – drop-ins welcome as space allows.



Summer Hummer Buzz Fest

Guests will have an opportunity to meet area experts, hummingbirds and learn about bees too! Yew Dell’s Hummingbirds & Bees Festival is a great way to spend a few hours enjoying the gardens and learning about some of Mother Nature’s most amazing marvels: the birds & the bees! 



Twilight in the Garden

Friday, October 6; 6pm-9:30pm

$200/person

Enjoy a lovely evening in the gardens in the Mary F. Rounsavall Pavilion, a gourmet dinner, limited silent and live auctions along with other spirited activities.

 



Boo Dell

Saturday, October 28; 11am-3pm

Free with Regular Admission

This seasonal event is a frightfully-fun day and a family favorite! Mark your calendars and get your creative costume thinking caps on. Kids of all ages can enjoy trick-or-treating along the Trail-o-Treats (11am-2pm). Dozens of local businesses will entertain with their creatively creepy booths and costumes. Hayrides, a straw-maze, scavenger hunts and the popular Mr. Magic (2pm-3pm) round out a day of fun for all. This event draws a large crowd, so come easy for easy parking and to get in on all the goodies.
