The north roof slope of the greenhouse is covered with a green roof system with more than 30 types of plants. The growing mix is a 6” deep layer of sharp gravel to provide excellent drainage.
Green roof systems like this are extremely durable, reduce storm water runoff and reduce reflected heat.
The green roof was only irrigated several times during the first year of establishment. The drought tolerant sedums and other succulent plants are perfectly at home in this very dry setting.
