At Yew Dell We Are All About Plants
Before Yew Dell became a botanical garden in 2002, the property had a long history as the Klein family’s commercial nursery. So it’s no surprise that we’ve been growing our nursery operation over recent years. Yew Dell’s nursery produces plants for display on the grounds, for plant evaluation research and for sales. Our goal is to get the best garden plants out to those with an interest to use them.
Every year we scour the planet for plants we think are worth testing in Kentucky. We bring them to Yew Dell and put them through evaluation on the grounds – testing their vigor, pest resistance, ornamental features, invasiveness potential and overall performance. When we find a plant that we think deserves wider use in the region, we work out propagation and production systems and then our nursery staff members get to work propagating and growing the plant so we can offer it for sale.
Whether you have a casual interest in plants or are a dyed-in-the-wool plant nerd, Yew Dell offers several ways for you to get your hands on plant varieties that have made it through our thorough testing program.
In Person Shopping
Our Garden Gift Shop and new Plant Market (located adjacent to our nursery) offer a seasonally changing slate of outstanding plants. On site sales stop on the onset of freezing temperatures in the fall.
Event Plant Sales
From our opening weekend sale of Hellebores and other early bloomers, to the granddaddy of them all – our Spring Plant Sale – and the Fall Plant Sale, we offer a tremendous diversity of thoroughly tested and vetted plants. Unusual annuals, herbaceous perennials, trees, shrubs, vines, tropicals, edibles and more . . . You won’t find a more diverse plant list anywhere in the region.
