Behind the Big Bloom
Started in 2019 with 13,580 spring blooming bulbs and has now grown to over 20,000
Designed to spark a passion for plants and get guests excited about the new season
Provide inspiration for our guests and encourage others to experiment with their gardens
Introduce a new range of spring activities for the community from the display itself to spring workshops and classes
We experiment and trial a variety of spring blooming bulbs, so we can better help our guests have success
Provide a unique oppurtunity for our volunteers to participate in large scale bulb plantings and see how the displays come to be
Make people happy!

About this Planting
For the entrance bulb bed we chose two pre-made mixes - each with a number of bulb varieties. Mixing multiple varieties can provide longer bloom time, varied heights, colors and textures, and the pre-made mixes make variety selection a breeze. This Eyecatcher Mix (purples) and All Season Yellow Mix (yellows) make a great combination for several weeks in spring.

About this Planting
Selecting bulbs for the Visitor Center bed is always a challenge, because of the vivid red color of the tobacco barn. And since last year we had a bad fungus problem on the tulip display, we needed to rotate to a different species of bulbs. So for 2022 we went with a white daffodil mix and a purple ornamental onion mix for a later and longer display.
